LAMDA Learning

I've just completed my second week of LAMDA and everyday has been a mind explosion of new knowledge and frantic note taking, to the point where I think I have developed repetitive strain injury in my thumb, but I am loving every minute of it.
I'm hoping to keep an online journal of my time at LAMDA on here, but as my timetable changes week by week and I've embarked on a very hectic two years of training I'm not sure how often I'll be able to do it, but we'll see how it goes.

In my first week I started off with a trip to the PLASA event, talking to various industry professionals, trying to network, getting free things and then straight into the fast paced three hour seminar on the theory of sound. I'm still going through notes on that one. We also covered various theatre roles and began to touch on stage management roles.

The majority of the acting students began in week two so on Monday morning we had a flashmob musical welcome from the student presidents - yep, i'm definitely at drama school - It was actually pretty amazing and like nothing I've experienced before, I know LAMDA is going to be full of moments like that (maybe not musical numbers but new experiences).

In week two, as well as getting the first lighting session in which we rigged and learned about several different theatre lights and cables, I also learnt how to build a basic PA system and learnt a new skill (my favourite hobby) by soldering sound cables and connectors. Another really great experience, I've never been proud of a cable before.

I also explored the British Museum and went on a pit stop tour of the West End in which we past 44 different theatres (in 3 hours!) and learnt a little bit about each. It was also exciting to hear where the LAMDA grads are working.

The future is so exciting.

I'm going to LAMDA!

Today I got a call from LAMDA letting me know I've been awarded a scholarship!

I can finally confirm I'll be starting the Stage Management and Technical Theatre course in September!

I am absolutely over the moon. Thank you to everyone for the support!

Upcycling complete!

It's been a busy few months but I've finally got round to uploading a picture of the finished drawers.

It's turned out a lot better than I imagined and once I've redecorated it will go perfectly with my room (ignore the blood red wall!)

Here's a nice little before and after;

I can now add woodcraft to my set of skills. Onto the next project, decorating!

Scholarship Update

Unfortunately, I didn't get the scholarship.

I'm not sure what my next move will be...but, bare with me. Plan B usually works out better than plan A anyway.

Thanks for all the love and support.

AAAAHHHHH-ndrew Lloyd Webber Foundation

Today has been a long anticipated day since I got the call from Rob Young in December offering me a place on the LAMDA Stage Managment and Technical Theatre course. Today was the day of the Andrew Lloyd Webber Scholarship interview.

It's been an awkward 7 months as I've been unable to make solid plans for the future without knowing how I was going to pay for the course and inevetiably if I was going to be able to accept my place.

The interview was short and sweet, only 20 minutes for me to plead my case of how I would excel on the course and am a deserving candidate for the scholarship, and then I was on my way.

Hopefully I've shown the panel how committed I am and how the assistance would help me achieve a previously unimaginable goal. Thank you to everyone who's asked about the funding and for your continuing support. I'll get back to you shortly - hopefully with good news!

Back to basics

So now the madness of Hundreds and Thousands is over I'm back to working on the chest of drawers that oringinally started out as a one day project, ha!

The legs came a week or so ago and I got them stuck on and now I'm painting. I can see the light!

#Blessed

For the past few days I've been ransacking my house to gather props for the upcoming production of Hundreds and Thousands. It's times like this I really appreciate how chilled my family are, especially when I say "Do you need this?", "Can I have this?" "Do you have any..."

Most families would be fed up with it instead my mum gets into the deep dark depths of the rotting, spider infested shed with me to help me find the rusty nail she remembers seeing several weeks ago. And Nanna asks all her pals at bingo, from the corner shop, her local cafe and pretty much anyone she see's on the street to try and help me out. They always manage to come and see whatever show I'm working on too; they are so wonderfully supportive.

I've also managed to contact a few companies in Doncaster to see if they could donate a few specific items and have been amazed by the positive response my begging phone calls have been getting.

I'm also amazed at the amount of energy I manage to find and infest into amateur theatre which reassures this is exactly what I'm meant to be doing.

This has not turned out to be the post I thought it would be, I'm not really a soppy person, so I'll put an end to it with a shameless plug -  BUY YOUR TICKETS FOR HUNDREDS AND THOUSANDS HERE!
