Sugar Glass

I've just started on a new production at DLT called Hundreds and Thousands and one of the props required is a breakable glass so I thought this is a perfect opportunity to learn a new skill.

To start with I needed to make a mould so I covered a champagne glass in a silicone putty that dries within 5 minutes.
Unfortunately being silicone this mean that when I took the mould off it became very flexible meaning the sugar glass could become misshapen when setting.
Luckily I had some plaster of Paris so decided to set the mould in this with the glass in therefore keeping the champagne glass shape.
Now I just need to get the ingredients for the sugar glass which includes sugar, cream of tartar and light corn syrup, which seems quite tricky to source. I'm not 100% how it's going to turn out but I'm feeling optimistic - it's very much a case of trial and error with this one!

I'll keep you posted!

P.S. You can get your tickets for Hundreds and Thousands here! http://doncasterlittletheatre.co.uk/hundredsthousands/
